No corrosion, no welds, no protective coatings necessary.
Well, the advertisers are not to blame completely if that’s not exactly right. First, plastics from the past reflect the chemical knowledge of the respective period, and secondly the fuels they have to withstand have evolved and changed since.

For now, we discuss fuel tanks, and the fuels have gone through 2 profound changes:
• the switch to unleaded fuel and hence the loss of the lead component since the mid 90ies
• the addition of highly volatile ether components since the turn of the millenium – this trend will increase and is the main reason for accelerated aging and disintegration of older plastic tanks.

So, the preservation and restoration of aging plastic tanks gains in importance – we want to take this into account and work up the topic extensively, scientifically, but also with practical orientation. In order to provide you with valid informations on this, we actually carry out a series of tests and record the results. Shortly, we hope to offer you the results as video workshop and instructions.

If you want to tackle the sealing of a plastic tank right now and get into questions or problems, please feel free to contact us directly via mail – support@wagner-classic.com – or phone – +49 9085 9600910 – we’re glad to help you wherever we can.
If you happened to already have sealed a plastic tank (or other part) with our Tankfix, we would be glad if you share your experiences – just drop us a line or call.

For now, the only valid informations we can provide:
• the sealing of tanks made out of carbon fibre, GRP (glass-fibre reinforced plastics), Kevlar, polyester and vinyl ester is possible, however we strongly recommend to test the adhesiveness beforehand
• tanks made out of polyethylene and polypropylene cannot be sealed because this materials prevent permanent adhesion of any coating

Stay tuned, we are right now working on instructions and solutions!

The number of GRP/plastics in need of restoration is steadily increasing – since the 70ies more and more car parts were made of plastics instead of metal in order to save costs. As main selling argument we were pointed to a longer durabilty and the undemanding nature of this new materials.
